#Sublime ale house full
Point Loma Seafood is a tourist destination, full of Arizona weekenders and salty sport fisherman alike, but still quality and worth the wait. Sun bleached blonde hair and sunglass strap tanlines are a rite of passage in some parts of San Diego, and Point Loma harbor is the Mecca. Walk off the “-itis” a block away on the beach, then head back over the bridge to Liberty Station. Come alone or with 1 fellow traveler, because big groups don’t work here- it’s tight and hot, and saddling up on a vinyl stool and getting pancakes, hash, and very respectable diner coffee is the name of the game.

If you’re only doing breakfast, you better do it well, and Night & Day is a legend. Night & Day Café scratches that short order diner itch, albeit with, dare I say, a much better pancake service than NYers would come to expect for our local diners. Home to the legendary Hotel Del Coronado and the US Navy Pacific Fleet, it’s also a tourist hot bed with millionaire homes and gorgeous family-oriented beaches. Get started early with this institution located on beautiful Coronado Island (technically a man-made peninsula sitting in the middle of San Diego bay). The omni-present drive-thru handles the late night food needs in SoCal, so diners morph into the “coffee shop” style- open for breakfast and lunch, then usually hanging the “closed” sign around 4ish. For a New Yorker abroad, the eternal search for a reliable diner is a tough journey in San Diego. That being said, the price of on-tap imported Belgian beers is shockingly overpriced.I can’t stress this enough people: base layer, base layer, base layer. Typical San Diego pub prices, and the local beers on tap are very reasonably priced. and everything I've had has been quite good. The food is salt-of-the earth, comfort food: pizzas, macaroni and cheese, burgers, etc. The bottle list is acceptable, though still somewhat meager-though it's not updated frequently enough, so just because a beer is on the list doesn't mean it exists in house. There are always plenty of fresh, local IPAs on tap at good, competitive prices, along with other interesting domestic crafts, and a handful of Belgians. The selection is decent, and probably about as good as can be expected from a brand new beer bar. When at the bar with a friend once, he must have waited at least 8-10 minutes with an empty glass of Sculpin before he was asked if he'd like another. On two other, separate, instances, I've sat at the bar, and both times the service has been slow and impersonal. samples and talk shop, all while I'm left looking at the bottom of an empty glass. I have been the only one at the bar, with an empty glass, waiting to order another round, while the 3 bartenders pour each other multiple 1oz. The service is, in a word, poor, and is truly the area where Sublime Ale House is most lacking. The local offerings are fresh and delicious, the Belgians are spot-on, and the food is tasty and interesting. This is nobody's Cheers.īoth the beer and food are of high quality. There's a lot of visible metal, and while very modern and chic, it doesn't appear particularly comfortable. The place is very shiny and brand new, and even a bit staunch and clinical. The space consists of a square, metal bar, picnic table style seating, and indoor and outdoor dining with waitstaff service. Sublime Ale House is a new beer bar in the San Marcos area, doing its best to take advantage of the craft beer mecca that North County San Diego has become.
