Named after a Greek theme, Ajax was a Greek hero and legendary King. This is the road leading to the Cairns Domestic and International Airports. The Airlie was built in 1884 and was sold in 1904 to Burns Philip and Co. The hill at this estate was known as Ah Ching’s hill. He grew rice from 1885 at the Fairview Estate. He arrived in Cairns in 1876 and owned 100 acres on the north side of Chinaman’s Creek. Named after Jimmy Ah Ching, an early Chinese settler who did a great deal for local development. The reef has coral gardens with an abundance of exceptionally coloured reef fish and a spectacular pinnacle where pelagic fish gather to feed.

It is a series of smaller reefs with at least 16 dive sites including interesting swim throughs and caves. Named after Agincourt reef, which is an outer shelf ribbon reef with an area of 5.1 km 2 and is situated 65 km from Port Douglas. The survey plan was registered in May 1973.
The varieties of agate are: eye, moss, onyx, riband, ring and white.This subdivision was developed by three Irishmen (Peter Murphy, Richard Moffatt, George Mitchell) trading as M. Banding in the rocks is due to the successive layers being approximately parallel to the sides of the cavity. Most agates occur in cavities of eruptive rocks or ancient lavas. Agate is a common semi-precious silica mineral and is composed of silicon dioxide. Streets in this subdivision are named after minerals and gemstones. It was surveyed throughout the 1940-50s and was initially registered with Cairns City Council on the 20 th June 1940. This road traverses the suburb of Aeroglen. The HMS Adventure and the HMS Resolution, commanded by Captain Cook, left Britain in July 1772 to circumvent the globe via Cape Horn in South America arriving back in July 1775. It was owned by Dath, Henderson and Bartholomew, a milling company, and was able to carry loads of up to 50 logs per trip from the Tewantin sawmills. The Adonis was a paddle steamer built in 1883, which was part of a fleet of several vessels that serviced the Tewantin area from Brisbane to Maryborough during the 1870s and 1880s. HMAS Adelaide was a light cruiser, which was commissioned at Sydney on the 5 th August 1922 under the command of Captain J. The second portion of the road towards the Hobson Drive end was surveyed on the 15 th May 1984 and was registered on the 17 th May 1985. The first reach of this drive was surveyed on the 11 th May 1984 and was registered with the Mulgrave Shire Council on the 17 th May 1984. Named in honour of Herbert (Bunny) Adair (1905-1994) who served the State Parliament from until. They are native to Queensland and are usually found in subtropical rainforest areas or in dry rainforest areas near streams.
Acmena smithii is the scientific name for a species of Lilly-Pilly, which has small pink & white berries. The street names for this sub-division were based on a rainforest & water theme. Named after a Hambledon Mill Employee that served for 10 years or more. The survey plan was registered with the Register of Titles on 21 July 1983. The Mulgrave Shire approved the subdivision. The Academy is most well-known for holding the Academy Awards Ceremony. This close is named after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the masters in film production since 1927. Most Acacia species are valued for their timber. There are about 950 species that are native to Australia. Acacia is a genus of tree with approximately 1,300 species worldwide, including many species of Wattle. Many street names in this suburb were named after a floral theme at the suggestion of resident Anne Edwards.
This close was surveyed on the 11 th August 2004 and was registered with Cairns City Council on the 31 st August 2004. This street was named after Mr Alf Abel who was a local businessman. Abbott came to Cairns immediately after it was established to open a branch of his bank. This street was named in October 1876 after Henry Palmer Abbott the General Manager for Queensland of the Australian Joint Stock Bank.
